The privilege is always His presence.

For me, leading worship has never been about standing in front of a room.

It’s about serving people by helping create space for our attention to turn towards Jesus.

Whether it’s a Sunday morning, a small worship gathering or a room filled with thousands of people, the heart remains the same: to worship God sincerely, follow where He leads and leave people looking to Him rather than the person holding the microphone.

Why I lead

Worship is service.

I love music, but I’ve never wanted worship leading to become a performance.

When I’m invited to serve somewhere, my first thought isn’t about the size of the stage or the number of people in the room. I want to understand the people we’re serving, the heart of the gathering and what God may want to do among us.

Good preparation matters. Excellence matters. But neither of those things replaces sensitivity to God.

My responsibility is to prepare well, come with an open heart and serve faithfully.

What happens beyond that belongs to Him.

The important thing is that the experience is appropriate for the gathering rather than trying to bring the same set everywhere.

Every room is different.

One of the first things our team will want to understand is the heart behind your gathering.

Who will be there?
What are you believing God for?
What role would you like worship to play?
Is John joining an existing worship team, bringing musicians, sharing original music, leading a full worship set or contributing to a wider programme?

Those conversations help us prepare properly and serve the gathering well.

There isn’t a single format we try to impose on every invitation.

Songs in the room

Music born in worship, returning to worship.

John’s original songs can form part of ministry invitations where appropriate.

Songs including Made Up My Mind, Yahweh and music from Age to Age were written from John’s own walk with God, but they were never intended to remain recordings.

They are songs to be sung. Songs to worship with. And songs that, we pray, help turn people’s attention towards Jesus.
